PROGRESSIVE MEDICAL

Case Study #1

Susan was previously diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea and uses CPAP therapy. She recently moved to Carlsbad and along with the challenge of a move, she has been fatigued, tired and grouchy. After meeting and getting to know her new neighbor, Shannon Mulcahy, Susan found out that Shannon is part of a amazing team working for Progressive Medical, who specializes in Sleep Disordered Breathing.

Progressive Medical was able to schedule an appointment immediately and under the guise of Susan's physician began their evaluation. Susan's CPAP was evaluated and placed on a manometer to check calibration. Her medical history was gathered and reviewed along with her previous sleep study. A significant weight gain was noted and deemed a possible reason for the increased fatigue. Progressive Medical placed Susan on an easy to use Auto-titrating device with an oximeter to verify if her current pressure was effective in treating her Obstructive Sleep Apnea. The device monitored Susan events, possible leak from her mask or mouth and the amount of positive pressure required to stent her airway open and maintain her oxygen level. All of this was accomplished in the privacy of her own home, allowing better comfort and a true capture of her nights sleep. The data captured showed that Susan needed an increase in pressure due to her weight gain. Her CPAP pressure was increased 1cmH2O.

With the adjustment in pressure, new CPAP pillow and new mask, Susan now awakens rested and energized as she did when originally treated for sleep apnea. Her productivity has increased dramatically at work and her family engages her in conversation once again.
