SLEEPINESS
The simple fact that you are not getting enough deep sleep each night can lead to daytime sleepiness. Hundreds of people die each year in car accidents by dozing off. Many of those incidents may be related to poor sleep as a consequence of undiagnosed sleep apnea.
Excessive daytime sleepiness (without a known cause) suggests the presence of a significant sleep disorder and is different from fatigue.

If you are drowsy while driving, groggy during the day at work, or just seldom feeling totally rested, you may be suffering from sleep deprivation due to sleep disordered breathing problems. The impact of poor sleep can be cumulative and cause other issues in your life. Becoming irritable, impatient, caffeine dependent are all signs of sleep-related problems.
Sleepiness may not seem all that serious but it is a precursor to other health problems. Another major concern for those suffering from poor sleep is how that person is impacting the partner sleeping next to him/her! If you are restless and sleeping poorly chances are your partner may suffer as a result. By addressing your sleep issues you may also be helping your partner get a better night’s sleep.

CPAP - Continuous Positive Airway Pressure
Devices: S8 Elite, S8 Escape, Tango, Everest 2, Breathe X, Remstar Plus, M-Series, 420 Series, 600 Series thermosmart
Bi-Level - BiPAP (Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure) and VPAP (Variable Positive Airway Pressure)
APAP - Auto Adjusting Positive Airway Pressure
Non-invasive Ventilation Defined - Sensing devices in this technology recognize a sleeping patient’s poorly functioning diaphragm (non-functioning respiratory muscles) and gives the patient a quick breath as needed. This may also include people with a non-functioning drive to breathe - such as patients with central sleep apnea. |
