Delay & Prevent Breathing
Problems II

Here are additional healthy actions you can take to help postpone or prevent disease-related breathing problems:

•
Eat right. Good nutrition helps maintain your immune system and overall health.
•
Maintain a healthy back and treat scoliosis. This spinal problem may prevent full expansion of the chest cavity leading to lost breathing capacity.
•
Obtain regular flu and pneumonia vaccines as directed by your physician.
•
Avoid crowds to reduce risk of exposure to respiratory infections.
•
Limit use of cough suppressants or sedatives especially at bedtime (see your physician before changing any medication).
•
Respond aggressively to colds.
•
Use care to avoid aspirating foods.
